ILSI – July 4th, Israel Style

We certainly had a very special (albeit schvitzing) July 4th here in Israel! We kicked off our morning with breakfast at the hotel. Once we had the most important meal of the day, we took to  walking through the old city of Jerusalem. Our journey began by entering the Old City’s Zion Gate—one of the eight gates in the old city!
We took a break for lunch in the Jewish quarter where we enjoyed lotssss of delicious shawarma! All of us also tried a Jerusalm bagel with za’atar—a spice mixture of culinary herbs that’s popular in Israel. In the Jewish quarter, we were able to have some personal exploration time in the historic Cardo area.
In the afternoon, we had an opportunity for reflection at the Kotel and Western Wall. This experience was beyond meaningful and an important part of our journey here in Israel! We then went back to the hotel for some free time.
Our day wrapped up with a meaningful talk given by Rudy Rochman, who is an Israeli-Jewish rights activist. Afterwards, we all gathered for dinner together to celebrate the 4th of July! We had a special celebration with a BBQ dinner in Gan Sekar.
Tonight we are staying in Jerusalem and are so excited for the rest of our journey!
