Trek Costa Rica: Tikkun Olam

We cannot believe we have been living it up in Costa Rica for the past week. Over the past three days, we have been so busy. With all this hustle and bustle, we can finally appreciate the importance of a nap.

On Sunday, we had the amazing opportunity to go white-water rafting. The rapids were huge and us teens had to work together to stay afloat. After four exhausting hours on the river, we changed and headed back to San Jose. Early the next morning, we left our accommodations and “trekked” over to the oxcart factory. It was cool to see how much work and effort goes into making the beautifully decorated carts.

After our tour, we were able to shop around an amazing souvenir shop, and most importantly, taste the amazing coffee and chocolates of the gift shop. We continued our journey and ended up at a Makhaw sanctuary. We enjoyed touring the expansive trails and watching the birds and in awe of the adorable sloths. We then took part in Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, by helping move dead palm trees. We then drove to our beachfront hotel in Puntarenas. We settled down and most importantly we showered. We then went on a sunset walk and enjoyed stopping by a local carnival. We walked to a cool restaurant where we enjoyed some well deserved American food!

On the way back, we visited different street vendors. We went to bed and recharged our drained batteries. We woke up and boarded busses to take us on a boat ride to an island called Tortuga. There we relaxed by the ocean, snorkeled, ate some amazing fish, and unitized the amazing WiFi.

As we headed back to the mainland, we saw sea turtles enjoying mating season and dolphins gliding through the water. After our tiring day we relaxed at our hotel pool and walked over to dinner. On the way back we stopped at some more local vendors. We cannot wait to go to bed and wake up tomorrow for another great day!
