Stand UP DC#2: What I’m Learning

Shavuah Tov from Washington, D.C. It has been a wonderful experience thus far. Here are some reactions from our participants as they reflect on the first week of our program. We are excited to see what is coming up next!

“The [number one ]first reason for homelessness is the lack of affordable housing.” ~Spencer

“Homeless people need more things and are way too deprived of the necessities! Also, I love making all these amazing friendships that will last a life time!” ~Leah

“I have learned that homelessness can happen to anyone and is certainly not easy to deal with. It takes a certain type of strength to get through. I enjoyed making food and handing it out to the homeless and learned all about their stories.” ~Gabrielle

“Throughout this trip so far many lessons have been taught. Before going on this trip many people including myself had stereotypical thoughts on what a homeless person looked and acted like. After directly involving myself with the homeless community I now understand the struggles and hardships people go through everyday in order to stay alive.” ~Joey Starr

“I enjoyed learning about how other communities live. My favorite part was the outreach run where we got to directly deliver food to people, see their reactions, and listen to their stories.” ~Jadyn

“I’ve learned that helping people that are less fortunate than we are really making their days and they are really appreciative.” ~Brian
