Stand UP DC#2: Starting Our Journey Looking In the Past

Hello from Washington, D.C!

Stand Up DC 2 has had an eventful 2 days here in the Nation’s Capital. We all got settled into our rooms then had a nice family dinner before heading in for the night.
Our first full day has us volunteering at Food and Friends where our teens packed food for members of the community who are sick. We then went to the Religious Action Center and learned about policy and how Jewish values play a part and then explored some embassies on Embassy Row. And who can forget that Washington D.C. set a single day July record for rain tallied over 3.5 inches in an hour. The participants have been troopers with rearranging some activities due to weather, including tonight’s kayaking that was postponned.
Today we went to the US Holocaust Museum and then had the opportunity to listen to a Holocaust Survivor’s story.  We then discussed the importance of taking action and remembering the Holocaust. After an impactful morning we spent the evening exploring Georgetown and surprised our group with some yummy Georgetown Cupcakes.
