Spain Discovery: We Have Arrived

Spain, we have arrived!

Our teens traveled in two separate groups before excitedly coming together in Barcelona. Upon meeting him at the airport, we quickly learned that our tour guide, Tin, is filled with energy and enthusiasm. Some of our teens toured the Jewish quarter and the Sinagoga Major de Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon while the others made their way to the city. Once together, we went out for our first group dinner. Tapas anyone? Plates were filled with croquettes, hummus, traditional bread, and more! We went to sleep exhausted from our busy travel days.

We kicked off July 4th at Park Güell, where we explored the lovely gardens and Gaudí’s incredible architecture. Have no fear, we took advantage of the many photo ops! Teens explored the area around Sagrada Familia for lunch and then took a guided tour of the magnificent cathedral. Note to self: return in 2026 when construction is complete!

We stopped off at the Olympic Stadium (Barcelona 1992!) before making our way to Telefèric de Montjuïc. We took cable cars up to the top of the mountain where we learned about the Spanish Civil War, the fortress atop the mountain, and the role of Jews in this part of Catalonia’s history.

Thursday night ended with a rooftop dinner. We took in the views of the city as the weather cooled down. We are so excited to make our way to Toledo tomorrow where we’ll celebrate our first Shabbat together. Stay tuned for more updates from España!
