Spain Discovery: A Sephardic Shabbat

Final Update from Spain!

Only two days left in Spain? That’s crazy! We’ve had such an amazing time here. Friday, we packed up and left Gibraltar and set sails for Córdoba. After making a pit stop at a water park on the way, we finally arrived at our amazing hotel in Córdoba. We were just steps away from the famous Mezquita Cathedral de Córdoba! Some of us even had a view of it from our rooms. Later, we had a unique Shabbat experience at the Casa de Sefardi, the Sephardic Jewish museum. Representatives from the museum walked us through the history of Jews in Córdoba and then sang us Sephardic tunes of some of our favorite Shabbat songs. Our counselor, Phil, led us in a meaningful service before we walked over to a delicious Shabbat dinner at a local restaurant. Saturday morning we slept in and had free time to roam around Córdoba.

After lunch, we went on a walking tour of the city where we learned about Maimonides who was actually born in Cordoba! Our tour ended with a special tour of the Mesquita Cathedral de Córdoba. After dinner, we all went to a traditional Turkish bath for a soak and massage!

Today, we journeyed to Granada for a walking tour,  got to shop around and sample tea at some of their infamous teahouses!

We can’t believe our trip has come to a close. We’re bummed to say goodbye to new friends but can’t wait for our new adventures in Italy, Israel or back at home. We’ve loved meeting, spending time with and learning from these wild, funny and awesome group of 45 teens.

Thank you all for a great two weeks.

Best, Mady, Ryan, Robyn, and Phil
