Stand Up Chicago – Update #2

Hello Friends and Family!

Please enjoy the following update from Paige Lambert, one of the teens on our trip!

After five days of fun, everyone can agree that Stand Up Chicago has been an amazing experience. On the fourth of July, we started the day with a lesson in entrepreneurial pivoting and primary and secondary research. Following that we had a phenomenal guest speaker, Ema Shah (a Kuwaiti musician/singer) who talked about her experiences with anti-Semitism and hatred throughout her career. Later, we went to volunteer at the Evanston 4th of July parade, we were so lucky to have been invited to hand out parade pamphlets, it was so fun. We ended the day with a Panera, a concert and fireworks show in Evanston, where they played songs dedicated to our great nation, before we saw the most glorious fireworks above the Chicago summer sky. On July 5th, we had a lesson on competition before heading out to Keshet. Keshet is a non-profit school that works with children with special needs ages ranging from pre-k through high school. We volunteered with the campers and made tie-dye shirts with them as well as other crafts. Then we headed over to A Just Harvest to help serve meals to people in different stages of poverty. We also helped bus dishes. After the long day of volunteering, we came back to the hotel to reflect on the past 5 days.
