Trek Israel: Update #6

Trek Israel… Update #6!

Wow! What an adventure we’ve been having. After stargazing Sunday night and watching the sunset and moon rise, our group was eager to get moving Monday  morning.

Monday started with an early morning walk through the Negev desert exploring the mountainous terrain, learning about desert wildlife and the creative ways they secure water and food. The hike was followed by breakfast at our overnight outdoor accommodations.

Following breakfast, we rode the bus to a scenic overlook above the crater we camped in. We enjoyed Pizur lunch on the seafront of the Red Sea, overlooking Jordan. After lunch, our group participated in snorkeling, banana boating and kayaking activities. Our evening accommodations were bungalow style at Kibbutz Lotan.

Our evening activity following dinner was a participant ran talent show! What a talented ground we have! Acts included hypnosis, singing, guitar playing, dancing, athletics, and magic. We all had a great time and our winner even received a crown!

Tuesday morning began with breakfast and a tour around the fully sustainable and ecologically friendly kibbutz where we stayed. Kibbutz Lotan residents take going green to a whole new level, including waterless toilets (not in the hotel rooms- don’t worry). Our lunch stop was at a dairy farm where we celebrated Eila’s 16th birthday with homemade ice cream!!

We spent the next part of our day traveling by bus to our overnight accommodations. Many spent their time catching up on sleep and playing games. In the early afternoon, we made an impromptu stop at the Dead Sea where many participants covered themselves in cleansing mud and floated in the salty water. Some even read books while afloat.

In the late afternoon, we arrived at the Bedouin tents where we enjoyed a festive meal, bonfire, camel rides, and socializing with the many other tour groups at the tents for the evening. The Bedouin homemade tea was a big hit!

Goodbye for now. Our next wake up is at 4AM in order to make it to the top of Masada before sunrise… !

Until Next Time,
Koby, Nina, and Emily
