Trek Israel: Update #3

Trek Israel… Update #3!

Hello Parents and Happy 4th of July to our American followers!

As we sit down to write our third message home from our campsite near the Sea of Galilee, it amazes us how blessed we are to have the opportunity to explore such a beautiful country with this incredible and diverse group of young adults.

You’ll be happy to know that all of our participants are in good health and good spirit. We see all of them growing closer and forming stronger friendships as the days pass.

Despite high temperatures, our days continued to be jammed packed with activity. Hiking has been done mostly in the early morning and touring in the evening when it becomes too hot to hike.

Sunday morning included rappelling down a rock face in the Western Galilee and a 2 mile hike to the top of the mountain. Lunch was spent at a shopping mall where many enjoyed a shawarma or falafel. A supermarket trip to stock up on snacks and water followed lunch. At 4 PM we arrived at the starting point of the Sea to Sea hike and began our trek! Our feet marched a total of seven miles in three hours! Our path took us past natural lakes where we were excited to take a dip to cool off. At night we sat around a campfire, enjoyed a BBQ meal and slept under the stars.

High temperature predictions for Monday prompted an early start to our day. After wake up and breakfast we were on our way at 6 AM. We hiked for a total of seven miles, wrapped up our hike at 9 AM and ate a campsite lunch before heading to Rosh Hanikra. Our group took a cable car to explore the caves and out of service railroads of Northwest Israel. Following Rosh Hanikra, we visited a scenic overlook over Lebanon and learned about the geopolitical landscape of Northern Israel. Our afternoon and evening was spent bonding and playing games at our campground accommodations.

Tuesday morning was another early start. We began our upward trek at 6 AM and hiked a total of eight miles, across a beautiful landscape, crossing mountains, woodlands and flatlands. Lunch was served at the trail end. Following lunch, we boarded a bus to Tzvat to explore the ancient city of Jewish mysticism. After a tour of a candle making factory, some shopping and snacking time, we headed to an impromptu visit to an outdoor pool. The pool stop was well needed as temperatures had reached 100 degrees F. Our evening is being spent at a nature reserve campground!

We are all eager to hike tomorrow and finish the trek that we started! Tomorrow night we’ll be spent in a hotel and we are all looking forward to that!

Until Next Time,
Koby, Nina, and Emily
