Stand UP Thailand: Update #3

Welcome to Mae Hong Son!

Stand UP Thailand has arrived in Mae Hong Son, a rural northern Thai community where we will be volunteering with the Kareni Hill Tribe.  Starting tomorrow, we will be working to build a mushroom farm to help bring money into the community as well as working in the community’s small school to help teach English and sports development.

We arrived to Mae Hong Son this morning from Chiang Mai, where we spent our first Shabbat as a group.  On Friday, we started our day with a gorgeous zip line tour and in the evening celebrated Shabbat at the Chabad House of Chiang Mai.  It was a packed house!  It was incredible to spend Shabbat with so many Jews from all over the world!  Saturday we were able to get some much needed rest and then took a walking tour of the old city of Chiang Mai.  After a lovely Havdallah service planned by a few of our participants, we visited the Saturday night market and sampled some new tasty treats from Thailand!

We have definitely bonded as a group and are very much looking forward to the rest of our time together in Thailand!
