Italy Discovery 1: Update #5

Italy 1
Update #5

Hi again!

Another busy day for Italy Discovery #1! Friday morning began with a tour of the Vatican City, St Peter’s Cathedral, and the Sistine Chapel. We saw the Coliseum, and walked the footsteps of the Roman Empire. We had pizur lunch, and some free time for shopping in the main square, before preparing for our second Shabbat together. We spent services and dinner at the beautiful Oratorio di Castro Synagogue.

Shabbat morning, Saturday, we held a Shabbat program where we learned about each other’s Jewish backgrounds and upbringings. It was really interesting to get a better sense of where everyone came from, as one of our last activities together as a group. We spent the rest of the afternoon going on a walking tour of Rome. We walked Rome’s Jewish quarter, saw the Spanish Steps and threw some coins in the Trevi Fountain. We finished the night with Havdalah and some free time. It was a great day!

We can’t believe the trip has come to an end. We are spending our last day driving down from Rome to Pompeii to visit the preserved ancient Roman city. We spent the early evening driving back to Rome to prepare for our last night all together. It was a hot day, but one we will never forget!

We are so grateful to have had this experience and sad to be leaving the trip. Everyone has mixed emotions, and those moving onto Israel are excited… !

Choi Bella, thanks for reading!
