Israel Journey 5B: Update #2

Hello Family and Friends!

What an exciting few days we’ve had since we last touched base!

On Friday, we left Jerusalem and headed north to take part in an interesting archaeological dig. We learned about the different civilizations that have lived in Israel and found some ancient pottery that was thousands of years old! In the afternoon we enjoyed time at the beach, swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. We arrived at Beit Kay, where we prepared for our first Shabbat. After welcoming Shabbat with Friday night prayers we had a delicious dinner and enjoyed an Oneg together. Oneg is the Hebrew word for “pleasure” and we spent the evening getting to know each other and playing fun games!

On Shabbat morning we had a session on exploring Jewish values and discovering the diversity of the group. The participants enjoyed sharing their views on what being Jewish meant to them. In the afternoon we spent time at the pool before we traveled to Akko. We ended the day with a dance party out on the water!

On Sunday morning we enjoyed a short hike with stunning views of the surrounding land. We cooled off exploring the caves at Rosh Hanikrah which we learned had been formed over thousands of years by nature. In the afternoon our group volunteered at Ekipo, a home for special needs residents. We played soccer and danced with the residents. It was a memorable experience for all! In the evening we arrived at Kibbutz Ohalo and enjoyed playing a game of Family Feud. The theme of the game was Israel and focused on our experiences together so far!

Monday we helped HaShomer Hahadash protect Israel’s forests; we cut down pine trees that othewise could have spread forest fires. We then cooked our own pita bread lunch over the fire, and enjoyed our delicious lunch together. In the afternoon we swam in the natural springs of the Sachne, another beautiful location to cool off from the heat!

Today we are enjoying a fun water hike and having a BBQ on the beaches of the Kinneret. Does it get any better?

We are having a wonderful time here in Israel and cannot wait to see more of this amazing country…

More to come,
Your Israel Journey 5B Staff
