Israel Journey 5B: Update #1

Hello Family and Friends!

We are happy to check in with you and tell you about our trip so far!

After a long day of travel, we arrived ready to get started! Once we landed and walked out into the hot air of Tel Aviv, we took a bus to the Old City of Jerusalem, and jumped right into touring by learning about King David’s tomb.

Next, we took a hike up to the roof of a building to find the most extraordinary view of Jerusalem, including the Mount of Olives. We saw beautiful mosaics and fascinating archeological sites on our way to lunch where we enjoyed our first delicious tastes of shawarma and falafel!

After lunch, we had the opportunity to visit the Western Wall. We connected to the site in our own personal, meaningful and spiritual ways, including putting notes with our prayers into the cracks in the Wall.

After visiting the Kotel, we came upon the ruins of the First Temple and learned how our religion has persevered. Soon after, we investigated the aqueducts and walked through caves and underground tunnels filled with water! It was incredible, and very dark.

We ended our day at “B’yachad,” the BBYO Passport celebration with all the BBYO trips currently in Israel. We ate BBQ, danced, sang and even went on amusement rides.

It was an amazing, exhausting, hot, and a great new experience for the first day! We can’t wait for more…
