Israel Journey 3A: Update #1

Israel Journey 3A
Update #1

Dear Parents,

On our first day, we arrived in Jerusalem excited!  We kicked things off experiencing first hand the ancient water system in Jerusalem. This was a wonderful experience for all involved. Next, we went to the Western Wall and we all put notes in the wall. This was a very special kick off to an amazing summer in Israel!

The next day, we went to an archeological dig and we were able to take part in an authentic digging experience, finding remnants of past civilisations who were there. We then went to Caesarea and had a picnic lunch overlooking the sea – beautiful!

Next, we drove to Acco and brought in our first Shabbat together, overlooking the city of Acco as the beautiful sun set.

The next day we relaxed on Shabbat by sleeping in and hanging out on the beach in Acco. We ended Shabbat with a beautiful havdallah ceremony as a community. We spent the evening at an extreme sports park where everyone had an opportunity to rock climb, zip line, bungee jump and have a blast!

On Sunday, we started the morning with a short educational hike with a lovely view of the Mediterranean. We then continued to Rosh Hanikra where we were able to see incredible ocean caves and we also learned about their historical significance to the land of Israel. We then went to volunteer at a community for differently abled people where we enjoyed live music and dance with Israelis with special needs. Everyone found it incredible how we could communicate with language and physical barriers. Every one of the residents had a huge, genuine smile on their face as did we! It was incredibly touching. We finished the evening with a scavenger hunt on the Kibbutz where we are staying.

Today, we travelled to Tzfat where we learned about the cabalistic roots by touring an old synagogue and meeting with an artist who made aliyah from Michigan. We then enjoyed lunch and shopping in Tzfat. After, we spent the afternoon rafting down the Jordan River – what a thrill! This evening we had dinner at the kibbutz.

We are looking forward to all that lies ahead!

Your Madrichim,

Sunny, Aniko, Melanie, and Ariel
