Israel Journey 1: Update #5

Dear Friends and Families,

We woke up Friday morning and celebrated Reesa’s 17th birthday. She was very excited to be celebrating with her new Israel family. Then we began our day at the Diaspora Museum at Tel Aviv University. It was very interactive and the teens loved it. From there we travelled to the Shuk in Tel Aviv and it was very exciting. They loved shopping and getting immersed in the Tel Aviv culture. After that we went to the beach. Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea was incredible.

Then we went back to our hotel to prepare for Shabbat. Together as a mishpachah/family, we lead an interactive Shabbat service filled with music and prayer. We had a wonderful Shabbat dinner followed by an Oneg Shabbat and birthday party for Reesa.

On Saturday, we took advantage of Shabbat, the day of rest. We hung out at the hotel all day playing games, going to the pool, and getting to know each other even better. We celebrated Shabbat in the morning with an interactive D’var Torah and Shabbat morning service. After Havdallah, we all travel to the mall in Tel Aviv. It was a new experience to be at the mall until 11:00 PM.

On Sunday, we went back to our regular schedule. We woke up early and went to Machon Ayalon, the bullet factory. We learned how they made bullets in secret for the wars underground At a kibbutz. We got to go underground and see where the people on the kibbutz actually worked. The teens were fascinated by it. If you want to learn more about Machon Ayalon, you can Google it and see exactly where we were.

From there we went to Sde Boker to learn about David Ben Gurion, Israel’s founding father. We visited his gravesite and had a beautiful overlook of Israel.

From there, it got super exciting. We went to the Ramon Crater and we actually repelled down the crater. It was exciting and terrifying all at the same time. Even our staff went repelling! Then we went to an overview of the crater. It was a beautiful view!

We arrived to Kibbutz Keturah in the Arava/desert for our next accommodations.

Today we started with a very early morning. We drove to the Sand Dunes in the Negev desert and the teens got to run and roll down the dunes. It was tons of fun. From there, we drove to Eilat, where we got to snorkel and banana boat. Then we walked along the beach and along the boardwalk and had a great lunch. Tonight we are back at Kibbutz Ketura for a pool party and a BBQ dinner.

Stay tuned for our next update.

For pictures of their journey, please check out our trip Facebook album which we will be updating regularly.

Best,
