International Leadership Seminar in Israel: Update #6

ILSI 2017
Update #6

Dear Friends and Families,

We are both excited and a bit sad as we head into our last Shabbat together. It’s hard to believe our trip is coming to an end. Wednesday was an emotional day for many. We spent the morning touring Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Museum. We left the museum by way of a connecting path to Mount Herzl where we visited the burial places of prominent Israeli Presidents, Prime Ministers, and soldiers. In the evening we explored all the wonders, smells and tastes of Machane Yehuda, the shuk (marketplace) in Jerusalem. With over 250+ vendors to choose from, our teens had the chance to enjoy all kinds of baked goods, fruits, vegetables and gift shops.

On Thursday, we began our day with a presentation from StandWithUs, a partnering organization to BBYO, which helped us define our personal Israel stories. We later traveled to the Old City of Jaffa, where were took a brief tour and spent time in the shuk for lunch. We then boarded the busses for a krav maga session with the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and Eitan Special in Ramat Gan. Eitan Special is an organization that creates a space to empower people with disabilities through sports and activities. All of our trainers from today were people with autism. Our group had an amazing time and left with a greater appreciation for people with disabilities.

As you read in our email yesterday, one of the members of our ILSI community experienced an untimely passing of a parent. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

In our last few days here in Israel, we will visit Independence Hall, Kikar Rabin, Carmel Market, and experience Shabbat in Jerusalem…

We will see you in a few days!

Shalom from Israel,
Your ILSI Leadership Staff
