Western Europe Discovery #3: From Bruges to Amsterdam!

The past few days we have been on the move! On Thursday morning, we woke up for our last French breakfast at our hotel. We will certainly miss those croissants and crepes! We loaded the bus and began making our way to Bruges, Belgium.

In Bruges, we attended the Friet Museum, which is a museum about potatoes and how the Belgian fry originated. The tour ended with free samples of the fries! Following this, we enjoyed some lunch and free time in the smaller, comfortable town. Belgium was lovely; they had cute boutiques, good waffles, and even a night concert in the main square later on!

Next, we went to a chocolate factory and store when we learned about the process of making chocolate. They provided delicious samples as well! Then we had more free time. Finally, we ended with dinner in the city.

Thursday morning, we were on the road again on our way to Amsterdam. We had a stop in the morning at Fort Breenbonk, a transit camp Belgian Jews were sent to for up to 3-4 months before being transferred to a concentration camp or death camp. This was a troubling but educational and significant experience.

Following our sobering visit, we embarked to Amsterdam. We stopped on the way for some lunch, drove to our hotel, and enjoyed some free time. We are now getting ready for our last Shabbat.

Hard to believe less than 3 days of this trip are left! We wish you all a Shabbat Shalom.
