Trek West #3: Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam

We have wrapped up our first week of Trek West and are continuing to have lots of fun seeing amazing sites with your kids!

We left the Ponderosa Ranch early on Monday to head to Las Vegas. We were greeted with 100+ degree heat (luckily the hotels and our dorms were air conditioned) and a barrel of street performers and impersonators. Quite the change from Utah! After we had lunch in the Venetian food court, we stopped to take pictures at the iconic Las Vegas sign and payed a visit to M&M’s World and the Adidas store.

In the afternoon, we hid from the heat and went bowling at the Silver Nugget Casino. We then checked into University of Nevada Las Vegas, where your kids got a taste of college life by staying in dorm rooms. In the evening, we went to an interactive crime scene simulation at the MGM hotel and enjoyed a little bit of free time on The Strip.

Tuesday began with a tour of the Hoover Dam. The teens got a kick out of being able to cross from the Nevada border to Arizona simply by walking across the lengths of the dam wall. We returned to the city for lunch and free time, where the everyone was able to explore the different hotel resorts and do some shopping. We returned to the university for a quick dinner and headed back to The Strip for the Blue Man Group concert. The performance was a hit with us and your kids – very funny and interactive. Our tour guide was also a selected audience participant in the show!

Today, we continue west to Los Angeles. We are eager for some beach time and cooler temperatures. The long bus ride there was welcomed after the busy last few days.
