Trek West #3: Flagstaff, The Grand Canyon, and Bright Angel Trail

Greetings from Flagstaff! We have been having so much fun these past two days getting to know your kids! We are so excited to spend the next couple of weeks getting to know them more as we explore the West!

After spending Tuesday afternoon doing ice breakers, spending time at the pool – Phoenix welcomed us with 100+ degree heat! – and recuperating from jet-leg, we started our trek yesterday morning heading north to Sedona. Following a quick visit to Walmart for the essentials, we began our morning cooling off by floating down the Salt River in inter tubes! We then enjoyed lunch in the spiritual town of Sedona.

We visited the Oak Creek Canyon lookout point on the way to our final destination: Flagstaff. In the evening, we went to the Lowell Observatory and learned about stars and planets. Some of us were able to see Saturn and Pluto through giant telescopes!

This morning, we made our way north to one of the Seven Wonders of the World – the Grand Canyon. We spent a few hours hiking down into the canyon on the Bright Angel Trail on privately guide tours. Though the sun was hot, the views were breathtaking to say the least. We wrapped up our morning with some gift shopping and lunch at the lodge’s cafeteria. Luckily, we made it back to Flagstaff in time to dodge afternoon storms. After some relaxation time, we had dinner and explored around old town Flagstaff.

Tomorrow we continue north to Utah, visiting state number two of our trip. We both feel super lucky to have such an inquisitive and cooperative group to experience our country’s natural beauties with. Wishing you all a relaxing Shabbas and weekend!
