Trek Costa Rica (Bus A): White Water Rafting and a Chocolate Factory

Hi friends, family and anyone else living vicariously through our travels. We’ve had an incredible first few days in Costa Rica and have much to report!

On Tuesday evening, we arrived safe and sound in San Jose. We got settled into the hotel and got to know each other while enjoying a delicious pizza dinner. Despite missing three members due to delays, we rested asure knowing they were enjoying adventures of their own.

Wednesday morning, luckily our three members caught a flight and were able to meet us later that evening. We started of the day with a visit to El Triangulo, a squatters community just outside San José. This was a truly eye opening experience and a fascinating glimpse into some the challenges facing several communities across Costs Rica. After that, we hopped on the bus and headed to white water rafting! By the time we got back, we were a full group, reunited with our 3 members. After enjoying a delicious buffet dinner and exploring the exotic hotel in the rainforest, we enjoyed an intracrive lesson in salsa dancing!

Thursday morning, due to high tide caused by overnight rain, we had to cancel tubing but we were lucky enough to get to go rafting yet again, this time on more extreme and turbulent rapids! After lunch, we got to experience a chocolate plantation. We enjoyed learning about the different methods of making chocolate and their brief histories. We even had the chance to taste these delicious chocolates for ourselves! After retuning to the hotel and eating dinner, we embarked on an evening nature tour around our resort on which we saw the likes of frogs, chameleons, sloths and more!

We’ve had an incredible time so far and can’t wait for what’s still in store for the rest of our trip!
