The last two days:
Wednesday, July 20
There’s nothing more beautiful than a gorgeous hike at Yosemite. After breakfast, we set off onto our beautiful, tiring and stunning journey. We climbed up steep hills and over rugged rocks. We learned that even in the most challenging situations, we must keep persevering forward with resilience and determination.

Finally, we arrived at our first waterfall, Vernal Falls. The wet mist gently blew against our faces, and the wind caused the vibrant, green plants to perk up around us in all different directions. It was breathtaking! We then set off hiking onto our next waterfall, Nevada Falls. At the top, we all experienced what could only be referred to as the “hiker’s high” once we saw the speeding water rushing over the rocks and down the falls. From there we finished the hike with a more relaxed downhill journey back to the campsite. What an incredible day it was!

The journey from Yosemite to Utah took many hours. There were times when there were long stretches of highway and the Sierra Nevada mountains. Nevada is a humongous state! To keep us entertained on our journey, we watched Grease and The Frisco Kid –both having roots to our trip. We had a blast singing along to the music in Grease!

Our one stop before calling it a day was in Las Vegas! We drove down the strip and stopped for dinner at the Palazzo, the mall within the Venetian hotel. With the kindness and generosity of Simone, a fellow participant of Southwest Connect, we enjoyed a delicious Japanese fusion dinner at Sushi Samba, Simone’s family’s business. We got to taste the excitement and energy of Las Vegas and end with some fun souvenir shopping. One of our favorite things to do! Finally, after another long stretch of driving, we could not have been happier to arrive safe and sound at our hotel in St. George, Utah. Tomorrow we will hit the trails in Zion National Park!
