Italy Discovery #1: From Venice to Slovenia!

Hi! It is Jason and Daniel from New York with an update of how the trip has been going. This past Friday night we were lucky enough to bring in the Sabbath with Venice’s Orthodox Jewish community at a beautiful synagogue. Services were followed by a delicious dinner at a restaurant in Venice’s Jewish ghetto.

Saturday, were able to sleep in late for Shabbat before going on a walk through the city. It was so interesting walking through Venice with our new friends and seeing all the other tourists in the city! After lunch, we visited Saint Mark’s Square: a main tourist attraction in Venice. We walked through the Basilica and the Doge Palace and then had some free time to shop around!

The next day we woke up early and got on the bus to Slovenia. During the delightful 3 hour bus ride, we tried our best to stay awake to soak in the beautiful landscape. We finally stopped at an awesome river where we went rafting. We can honestly say that was one of the coolest experiences we’ve ever had!

We had a quick bagged lunch and then slipped into our rafting gear. We split up into groups of 6 and 7 and and then set sail. We rafted in the emerald green water for about an hour and couldn’t get over how amazing the scenery was. There were some rough waters but our guides helped us through it really well! No one fell off the raft!

After that we had a 2 hour bus ride to our hotel in Bled. Compared to our hotel in Venice we felt like royalty walking into the bigger rooms! At night we finally had time to play some ice breakers to get to know each other better. We laughed so much and found out some very interesting facts about everyone.
Monday morning we took a boat ride on the beautiful lake in Bled to the Island in Bled. We all got a chance to ring a good luck bell, but we aren’t allowed to tell you what we wished for. We then went to the city of Ljubljana where we toured around the city center and had some free time for Lunch. We all got a chance to participate in an “Escape Room” game activity. We thought this was such an awesome way to bond with each other.
