Israel Journey Kingswood/JORI: The Galilee, Rosh HaNikra, and Akko

We can’t believe it’s almost been a week since we landed in Israel, what an amazing journey so far! Upon landing in Israel, we played lots of games and ice breakers to help our two camps get to know each other. We started off our trip in Jerusalem and immediately went to the old city to experience the Western Wall and get our feet wet in an underground aqueduct. We have already indulged in some culture in the Jewish Quarter and enjoyed trying Israeli food and sightseeing. We spent the night learning about the politics behind Israel’s government to help acclimate us to our new home.

The next day we began traveling north to the Galilee to see Casearea and it’s history. We explored the runes of the amphitheater and palace. On our drive to Haifa, we ventured to the Baha’i Gardens to view it’s beautiful symmetry and lush gardens.

Our first Shabbat was spent at the kibbutz Lochamei HaGetaot where we sang songs to welcome in Shabbat and spent our Saturday relaxing by the pool, engaging in some outdoor teambuilding activities, and acting out some classic Jewish stories. We closed out Shabbat with a Havdallah service and ended our Saturday night with a meseebah (party) on a Boat Cruise with other BBYO teens.

Sunday we explored the ocean caves at Rosh HaNikra and hiked the Ma’arat Keshet. We then travelled to old Akko seaport and discovered the Crusader castle, Templar Tunnels, and the Irgun prison. As we travelled to our next kibbutz in the Golan Heights, we stopped to see the breathtaking view of the Sea of Galilee. We are now settled in at the Kibbutz Afik and are celebrated the 4th of July in Israel.
