Israel Journey #5 (Bus A): Old City of Jerusalem and Akko Seaport

This is the staff from Israel Journey 5! Our group of 34 participants and 5 staff has finally come together to create one big family! We are so glad to say that in just 3 short days your children have branched out from the trips they had just come from and made many new friends!

Over the past couple of days we have seen the Old City in Jerusalem, overcame some fears of small spaces and walked through the city of David water tunnels, visited the historical sights in Caesarea, enjoyed a yummy picnic lunch and much more!! Shabbat at the kibbutz in the north has truly given the group time to play ice breakers, have discussions, and begin stepping outside their comfort zones in order to grow exponentially from this experience.

We laughed together and celebrated Shabbat in a way that was inclusive to the group as a whole! We were so excited for our boat party on the Mediterranean Sea – we all really enjoyed a night of dancing on the top deck of a boat which left from the port in Akko!

Sunday we started our day off by visiting the Keshet cave and hearing the legend behind it. We then went to Rosh Hanikrah and were in awe by the stunning views and grottos naturally formed. Following that our tour guide took us to a bakery in the old City of Akko. The owner was so nice he showed us how he makes his treats and let us try some out, even though he wasn’t supposed to work.

It was so great to watch the teens try foods that they have never eaten before. They all had such an open mind and dug in right away! We then went for lunch and toured the Old city of Akko. Sunday night at the Kibbutz we played 2 games which had the group laughing and truly continuing to try and do something outside their comfort level. In just under a week, we have created memories that are sure to last us a lifetime! We are looking forward to seeing the group continue to enjoy this awesome journey for the next few weeks.
