Israel Journey #1: Masada, the Dead Sea, and Yad Vashem

After spending the night in the Bedouin tent we woke up at 3 a.m. to get prepared for our early hike up Masada. When we got there we felt the fresh breeze of Israel. We walked around and learned the history of this magnificent place. After that we ate breakfast and then headed to the waterfalls of Ein Gedi. This was such a refreshing part of the day because of all the hiking. We had such a fun time and then made our way to the Dead Sea. In the Dead Sea we had lunch and went into the salty waters. Some of us put mud on our bodies and cleansed our bodies in the sea. After a long day, we returned to Jerusalem to spend the night.

The next morning we woke up and started our day going to Yad Vashem, the holocaust museum. Here we learned about all the hardships the Jews went through before, during, and after World War II. It was an emotional experience, but a memorable one as well. After that we went to the Knesset aka the Israeli parliament. We got a tour and a better understanding of the parliament and it was super cool hearing the difference between things here versus things in America.

Next, we went to Ammunition Hill and learned the story of the paratroopers in israel and how we gained the holy place of Jerusalem. We then rested at the hotel for some time and then made our way to Ben Yehuda Street. There we experienced the amazing Israeli culture and ate great food. Can’t wait for the days to come and sad that this journey is ending so quickly.
