Int’l Leadership Seminar in Israel: Final Reflections on our Time in Israel

We can’t believe how quickly this trip has flown by! We have done so many fun activities since our last update to you. The week began on Sunday by crawling through and exploring the Bar Kochba Caves. From there, we left for Beer Sheva to visit Ben Gurion’s house and his tomb. Later that day, we arrived in Chan Hasharot where we went camel riding, star gazed, and slept in Bedouin tents.
Monday, we hiked the beautiful trails of Ein Avdat, traveled to the Ramon Crater, and the IDF Nahal Base. A few highlights from this IDF base include watching a sniper target practice, and participating in basic training. Tuesday was a very early day. We woke up at 3am to climb Mount Masada where we were witness to the breathtaking Israeli sunrise. After our decent from the top the of the mountain, we spent the afternoon lounging around the Dead Sea. Getting to see first hand how easy it is to float in the water was an incredible sight and experience.
Upon our return to the hotel, we watched a documentary about Lone Soldier Michael Levin, who was killed during the Second Lebanon War. Wednesday was an emotional day for many. We spent the morning touring Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Museum, and had the opportunity to listen to a Holocaust survivor from Romania. We left the museum by way of a connecting path to Mount Herzl where we visited the burial places of prominent Israeli Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Soldiers.
The evening program was a presentation by StandWith Us, a partnering organization to BBYO. Thursday we travelled to the beautiful city of Tel Aviv, where we spent the morning participating in a technology workshop at Tel Aviv University. This afternoon was a relaxing one. The teens were able to spend time swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, had a falafel dinner on the beach, and enjoyed an interactive drum circle. In our last few days here in Israel, we will visit Independence Hall, Kikar Rabin, Carmel Market, and the Kotel one last time! We will send another update soon! See you in a few days!
